Thoughts & Observations From The 2024 Columbia Boys Basketball Showcase

Yesterday was the Columbia Boys Basketball Showcase at Columbia High School in Dekalb County, Georgia.  Columbia hosted six games yesterday featuring eight teams ranked in their respective state.  There was no shortage of talent or excitement as two of the six games went to overtime, and five of the six were decided by four possessions or less.  Youngsters and veterans showed up and showed out at this legendary home of several state championships.  Read below to see a review of each game and the all-showcase team.

Region Preview: GHSA 6A - Region 8

The suburban Atlanta region in 6A to the northeast is going to be one of the more exciting chases to watch this year in 6A.  Every team has at least one guy who is going to be a college player somewhere next year and is full of great coaching along with it.  With no clear front runner, every game will count this year and should make for some fantastic finishes in the region as they chase for one of those highly coveted four spots in the state tournament.  Read below to see the preview!

Region Preview: GHSA 6A - Region 6

The North region this year in 6A has some fresh faces this year.  While it is primarily Forsyth County schools, there are some other players in the game who are fielding strong teams such as Lambert and North Atlanta.  There is a lot of parity in the region this year which should make for an exciting finish for one of those highly coveted top four spots to get into the state tournament.  Read more to find out about the teams this year in Region 6 of GHSA 6A.

Region Preview: GHSA 6A - Region 5

Region Preview: GHSA 6A - Region 4

The toughest region in the entire state of Georgia is dripping with talent from top to bottom this year as 6A - Region 4 is this year’s “Gauntlet.”  Featuring the likes of nationally ranked Grayson and state power houses Newton and South Gwinnett, there are some other players in the game who have their say as well. Archer, Grovetown, Rockdale, and Heritage all boast competitive teams that can go off any given night.  Only four of these teams however can make it to the coveted state basketball tournament.  Read below to see how it looks this year in the region.

Thoughts & Observations from the 2024 FeastGiving Showcase

Yesterday was the North Georgia Report/ Baseline to Sideline FeastGiving hosted at Buford High School in Buford, Georgia.  There were seven boys games that were primarily teams from northern Georgia.  Between the four teams there was plenty of scholarship level talent in the building with seven great matchups that all but one came down to the wire fielding some great matchups.  There were even two division one scholarships awarded in the building Saturday night.  Read the report to see the game recaps, all showcase team, and more.

Thoughts & Observations from the Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic

This past Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday was the well known annual Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic held at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanne, Georgia.  Over the course of the three days there were 14 games featuring 22 different boys teams and also included one of the top programs from Alabama.  There was no shortage of talent and star power as there were some familiar names and faces that shined, but plenty of new ones as well who are worthy of mentioning.  Please see my notes below from each game and a recap of the all-tournament team below.  Thank you again to coach Matt Garner and the entire crew at North Gwinnett High School for their hospitality and for putting on a great event that did not disappoint.

Thoughts & Observations from the 2024 Powder Springs Showcase

This past Saturday was the Powder Springs Showcase held at Hillgrove High School.  It featured six matchups that featured some of the more highly touted programs in the Atlanta area and the hype didn’t disappoint.  There was plenty of college level talent to go around from all ages in the 2025 class down through the 2028 class even.  Please see my notes and all Powder Springs Showcase team below from the day.  Thank you again to coach Greg Moultrie and Hillgrove High School for putting on a fantastic event and the great hospitality they showed in the process.

Thoughts & Observations From The 2024 Georgia Rising Stars Invitational

The Georgia Rising Stars Invitational went off without a hinge this year and we had a full slate of competitive games.  Of all of the games, all but two were four possession or less games, leading to a full day of excitement.  I’d like to thank coach Moore for being a fantastic host at Griffin High School.  This year’s Champs are McDonough High School as they defeated Villa Rica in the defacto championship game Saturday afternoon.

Thoughts & Observations From The 2024 Battle On The Hill

This past weekend was the inaugural Battle On The Hill Grand Finale Tournament at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.  There were 20 competitive varsity basketball teams there and got to see 42 games in two days Friday and Sunday.  A special thanks to coach Ty Baumgardener and the Collins Hill High School staff for their hospitality in hosting the event.  There were 2 brackets at this year’s event as the winner of Pool A/B was Midtown who held on to win by 3 in an instant classic that was back and forth over East Coweta.  The winners of Pool C/D bracket was Griffin who held off a late comeback over Douglas County to win 52-54.

Thoughts & Observations From The 2024 Georgia Hardwood Classic

The Georgia Hardwood Classic was a huge success this year, and thank you to all of the schools who participated.  There was no shortage of talent to go around at the event as all ten teams yielded talented individuals to make it competitive throughout the weekend where 9 of the 21 games played were decided by single digits.  This year’s Champs are Midtown High School as they defeated Collins Hill in the championship game.
